I’m Louis Schumaker — an ISSA-certified Personal Trainer, Nutrition Coach, Strength & Conditioning Specialist, and Bodybuilding Specialist. I’m also a personal trainer at Anytime Fitness and a black belt in Kyokushin karate, with over 7 years of martial arts experience and 4 years under the bar.
My philosophy is simple: train hard, eat real food, strengthen the mind, and reject comfort.
I built Uncivilized Fitness around a truth echoed throughout myth and legend, from The Epic of Gilgamesh to Conan the Barbarian: the civilized world makes life comfortable, but comfort can make men weak.
Our ancestors hunted, fought, built, and endured. Modern man has traded much of that hardship for convenience, endless entertainment, processed food, and digital distraction. Strength is replaced with comfort. Discipline is replaced with indulgence. Capability is replaced with convenience.
Uncivilized Fitness is the counterattack.
I believe fitness is about more than physical strength. True fitness encompasses the body, the mind, and the spirit. Building the body means developing strength, athleticism, and resilience. Building the mind means cultivating discipline, controlling what you consume, and refusing to let constant stimulation dictate your attention. Building the spirit means developing purpose, character, and the inner strength to live according to your principles.
This isn’t just about building muscle or looking good. It’s about rebuilding yourself — becoming stronger, more disciplined, more capable, and more difficult to break.
The goal isn’t to literally return to the Stone Age. It’s to reclaim the primal qualities that made us strong in the first place.
Reject comfort. Embrace the struggle. Become uncivilized.
